Two police officers, an inspector and a sergeant,lost their lives after
they were attacked by motorcycle riders in Festac,Lagos. The incident
happened in the wee hours of Tuesday at 7th Avenue, High Close, at a
place called Aso Rock while the policemen were raiding a dark spot in
the area.
A resident told Punch that the incident was a reaction by the riders to the alleged regular harassment of the residents of the area.The police have always gone there to raid and extort the riders.He said the officers were men of the Rapid Response Squad, attached to Area E Police Command.

“On this fateful day, the police came again around 2.30am on motorcycles and with a truck.As usual, they started seizing motorcycles, clothes and money. They carried their loads and other things. It was while this was on that one of the people decided to raise the alarm, and people came out and attacked them.”Corroborating the claim, a police source said:
“The policemen were on patrol that night and had arrested some motorcycle riders. They were moving out, when some Hausa men around the 7th Avenue, apparently angry, came after them and attacked the officers with weapons.”One of the murdered police officers was identified as Inspector Bashiru.It was learnt that while Bashiru died instantly, the sergeant gave up on Wednesday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
