Two persons were reportedly killed at about 10:pm, on Wednesday, when the residence of Chief Oris Onyiri, the President- General of Egi Peoples Assembly (EPA), was bombed in Ogbogu in Ogba /Egbema /Nodoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
One of the victims, called Stainless, was said to be a relative of Chief Onyiri, while the other was a member of the terror gang, who was shot dead in a shoot-out with some security men.
The other members of the gang escaped after one of them was gunned down.
Chief Onyiri, was a former secretary of the state’s chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the Odili administration.
Meanwhile, Chief Onyiri, who is said to be a strong supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan, was not at home when the assailants, who arrived on a motorcycle, came to detonate the explosive.
It was gathered that part of a bungalow in his compound was blown off.
Chief Onyiri, the state’s coordinator of SURE-P, is also said to be a strong supporter of the state Chairman,
Chief Felix Obuah.
It is speculated that he may have been tipped to be the campaign director of Nyesom Wike's governorship campaign organisation.
There had been a running battle between the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) members in the area.
It would be recalled that on Saturday, April 12, 2014, the PDP accused APC members of attacking its secretariat at Omoku, also in Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.
Calls made as at press time to the mobile phone of the state police command spokesman were not answered.
